History and Theory: Palladio and his timeCopyright: © Art history
Andrea di Pietro della Gondola (1508-1580), better known as Palladio, was one of the most famous architects of the Renaissance in Northern Italy.
The lecture aims at elaborating as comprehensively as possible the importance of this personality of Italian art history in his time.
With regard to his education, his career and his life, the focus is primarily on Palladio's architectural oeuvre, which includes country residences and city palaces in large numbers, but also public buildings, bridges, church buildings and theaters. No less important, and therefore also the subject of the lecture series, are the architectural theoretical writings that he left behind.
