Description

This year's Pentecoast excursion of the Chair of Art History goes from June 6 to 11, 2022 to the border triangle: to France, Germany and Switzerland! To ensure that the Whitsun excursion can take place as a "low budget" excursion as usual, our accommodation is in Freiburg im Breisgau. From the university town in the Black Forest - and not to forget: the city with the most hours of sunshine in Germany - day trips will be made to Strasbourg, Basel and the surrounding countryside.

We visit architectural highlights such as the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein with buildings by Herzog & de Meuron, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando and Frank Gehry, the pilgrimage church Notre-Dame-duHaut in Ronchamp by Le Corbusier and the Goetheanum in Dornach by Rudolf Steiner. We will also visit exciting museums: the Fondation Beyerle by Renzo Piano and the Kunstmuseum Basel with the extension by Christ & Gantenbein. From the Freiburg Cathedral to the reception of the Aachen Cathedral in Ottmarsheim to the Novartis Campus in Basel (with buildings by Frank Gehry, Renzo Piano, Tadao Ando, David Chipperfield and Diener & Diener), it's all here!
