Description
It was Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) who gave modern Prussia a new appearance. In an impressively close chronological sequence, he created all the representative buildings of the new Berlin after the end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1815, including the Neue Wache, the Schauspielhaus and the Schlossbrücke, the Altes Museum, the Friedrichwerder Church and the Bauakademie. All of these are masterpieces by an architect who was also a gifted draftsman, painter and stage designer and, after a stellar career, even supervised all building projects in the Kingdom of Prussia from 1830. Due to his great impact he formed several generations of architects with his distinct architectural style.
During the course of this seminar, independently to the lecture on the architect Schinkel for the master students, we will analyze selected buildings of his work.
