This Field of Research gives a multi-perspective and scientifically highly up-to-date insight into one of the three research topics examined at the Chair of Art History. Discussed topics in the class will be the beginnings of floor plans, historical genesis regarding the function of a floor plan in the construction process, the spectrum between the practical and epistemic implications and the rhetorical performance as far as the metaphorical use e.g. in the application as book title on scientific fundamental works. In short, this class will give an overview over the diverse discourses developed by the occupation with history, design and use of these scaled, horizontal sections of a building. The sources being consulted during this seminar are mainly floor plans themselves. They will not only be analyzed in connection with their location but also in their role in quotations given by architects, literates and specific personalities from history and science.

The Field of Research “Floor plan II” can be taken for 6 CPs and is a sequel to the Field of Reasearch_1a from the winter term 2019/2020.
