From the Romanesque to the Reichsparteitagsgelände. Architecture in Franconia

“Why wander into the distance, when the good is so close”, this saying Johann Wolfgang von Goethe could very well be the slogan of this seminar. To see architecture, sculpture and painting from the Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque in perfection, you do not necessarily have to travel to France, the Ile de France, Rome or Paris. All this can also be discovered in Franconia, one of the richest art and cultural landscapes in Germany in terms of architecture and art monuments. For example in the region between Würzburg and Nuremberg there can be found masterpieces by Balthasar Neumann, Leonhard and Johann Dientzenhofer, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Tilman Riemenschneider and Veit Stoß, to mention just a few sizes and also, on traces of Nazi architecture, in the form of the Reichsparteitagsgelände in Nuremberg by Albert Speer and Hans Brugmann. The seminar, which is conceived as a compact seminar, serves to prepare the Excursion of the same name in the Pentecost week.
