Frauen am Reiff
The current debate about the presence of women in the profession and in public perception also directs our attention to the Reiff. Therefore, the research project "Women at the Reiff", which is being carried out in collaboration with students, is explicitly dedicated to the situation of women at the Faculty of Architecture at RWTH Aachen University from the opening of the Reiff in 1908 to the present day. The spectrum of the study includes all groups - from employees in technology and administration, to female academic staff, to female professors and of course female students. The aim is to make the work of female staff members from the various disciplines visible and to question them from a structural, content-related and methodological point of view. In addition to architecture and urban planning, the now defunct subjects of art history and architectural history, which were taught as master's degree programmes at the Reiff for decades, will also be examined.
After researching the diverse present and historical personalities of the faculty, the results will be placed in the context of an overarching academic-feminist debate in a second step. The aim of the project is to supplement the hitherto primarily male history of Reiff with the currently missing female perspective and, if necessary, to correct it.
The first results of the project will be presented in an exhibition in the foyer of the Reiff from December 15 to 21, 2022. A publication is also being planned.
In the course of the exhibition, Baunetz Campus also reported on it. You can find the article here.
